Well Hello 2017
I hope everyone started the New Year or the end of 2016 off with goals to achieve.
Did you know hiring tends to pick up just after the holidays? Yessssss, especially those businesses that start off the new year with a new budget.
If you do plan to look for work, though, expect some stiff competition.
People who really want to find new work this year will need to make sure that they stand out from the crowd. One way to do that is to get your resume in tip-top condition.
I send emails with tips, facts and suggestions when requested so in this case I wanted to share my most recent interaction.
My customers reach out to me via email at showoff82@gmail.com with their resume and I pretty much take it from there. As much as I LOVE face to face interaction phone and email has worked for us just as good!
My response below to a recent resume sent in on behalf of a friend:
Ok, formatting is KEY!!! but I can resolve that!
A few things in mind off first glance.....
If he wants to include some kind of summary at the start of his resume, make it all about what he can do. No beliefs or details on characteristics such as "I'm a hard worker" or "makes sound judgement"
Deleting irrelevant information means a less cluttered resume which will be easier for hiring managers to scan. They need to see skills that they are looking for within seconds so I would definitely shorten this.
He should scratch any info or jobs that aren’t relevant to his current career goals (example if you want to be an FBI agent, upon hiring it won't matter if you have geriatric experience unless you're in the geriatric department of the agency)
For education I would remove anything related to high school since he has a bachelors as well as details on the coursework. I would only leave the names of the certificate or certification, date received and location.
Most recruiters have strict deadlines and can only spare a few seconds in reviewing a resume for the first screening so less is best at first glance but the information presented needs to be on point (meaning exactly what they are requesting *keywords*)
For the sake of time its good to include 5 bullet points under each job and try not to go beyond a 10 year work history unless what was done then is relevant to what you want to do now.
This would take me some time
Basic Update Resume

Why Me?
I have been applying for jobs and revising resumes and cover letters since I was 16 years old. I spent numerous hours at my local one stop shop learning different ways to create resumes so I could stand out and this was over 15 years ago but that's how it started. My job history consists of being a lifeguard, assistant in court house, sales, marketing, production, customer service, food services, phlebotomy work you name it, I probably took a shot at it. Fast forward to 2017 and I've earned an Associate degree in Computer Information Systems and a Bachelors in Communications which has provided me an abundance of skills to help you show off and stand out. Let me help you get recognized.
We'll work together until you are 100% satisfied with your resume.
Sincerely,
Lala
