Starting a business
can be nerve wrecking for a lot of people and for some it can be a breeze.
I’m always interested
in weird, wacky and crazy ideas that people come up with that actually WORKS…like
omg, they pulled it off. Tonight was no different from the rest, I was doing my
regular “What’s going on in the world search” and came across the person who
started the Poop business. LOL, like who would have thought to get paid for
picking up dog poop. WEIRD and Crazy in my opinion but Heyyyy it worked! In
2012 the business Doody Calls made an annual 4.5 million a year. “Where’s the Shovel”
Anyway, that search lead
me here! I created a list of 9 Weird and Wacky jobs that actually worked.
A mourner rental service
A
business based in the United Kingdom, allows you to hire professional mourners
to attend funerals and wakes. According to the company's website, its mourners
are "typically invited to help increase visitors to funerals where there
may be a low turnout expected," noting that this can often be due to
popularity or being new to a city or country.
An
organization for cuddling
Cuddle
Party hosts events throughout the United States and Canada, so whether you live
in New York, California or Ontario — or anywhere in between — if you're looking
to cuddle, you can attend an event near you.
Anonymous delivery for smelly
friends
According
to the website, "Everyone has a stinky friend. A classmate, co-worker,
boss, sibling or other stank suspect. Those days of smelliness are over — here
is your chance to tell them what's up." How? All you have to do is put in
your credit card information and your recipient's address, and choose whether
you want to send one cologne wipe for $1.99, or a set of four for $4.99. The
company's FAQ says that there is nothing the recipient can do to link the
package back to you, and that each package comes with a short note that is not
mean and does not contain profanity.
A gas station
that comes to you
Booster
Fuels' business model is fascinating — the company partners with large
businesses to offer on-demand fuel service. To use the service, employees have
to park their cars (leaving their gas caps open) and use the company's mobile
app to request that their car be filled up. The Booster Fuels app allows
customers to pay for their gas and notifies them of their delivery time.
A
mystery marketplace
According
to the company's website, "your something may be a cool shiny gadget, rare
book, party game, handmade necklace, reverse clock, box of gourmet chocolates,
portable table tennis set, pashmina scarf, set of kitchen knives, pair of
handmade earrings, garden tool, kitchen appliance, electronic equipment, fine
crafting tool or an office supply item." Basically, anything goes, so long
as it's legal to trade in the United States and is worth at least $10.
A prank candle
company
Check this out, the
brothers' prank candles start out smelling wonderful, with popular scents like
apple pie and freshly cleaned laundry, but after a short while, things go
south. The sweet-smelling aroma of fresh forest pine, for example, eventually
gives way to the awful smell of skunk. And the person being pranked won't
know it until it's too late.
The
triple threat of sock companies
You
never have to handle another lonely leftover sock again. The company helps
customers fight the infamous sock monster by selling socks in threes, not
pairs. That way, when you lose one, you've still got a backup sock to keep the
other company, so you can keep wearing your favorite pair and doing your
laundry worry free. Throx's socks are one-size-fits-all and range in price
depending on the design (and there are tons of designs to choose from), though
most cost around $10.
Bed Bug Barrier
Tony Abrams made a fortune by inventing barriers to keep the
bedbugs from biting. His business creates and sells barriers that go underneath the legs of a
bed. These barriers trap the bedbugs as they attempt to crawl into the bed to
bite sleepers.
Hangover Helpers
Two college guys in Boulder, CO help their hung over clients
crawl back into the land of the living with as little pain as possible. The
guys show up at your house armed with a breakfast burrito
and Gatorade for you. They then clean every room where the party
happened. This includes cleaning dishes, pots, and pans, and recycling all of
your beer bottles.
As you can see tough economic times can inspire a lot of creativity when it
comes to new business ideas.
