Beyond Gifted.......by Accident

Beautiful Minds Part I

O. Serrell

Orlando Serrell gets hit with a baseball at the age of 10 on August 17, 1979 and after a few days he's "calendar counting"....... HUH-what's that? "Toss out any date since his accident- sayyy February 28,1990-and almost immediately Orlando will tell you what day of the week that date fell on (It was Wednesday by the way). To top that off he may even tell you what the weather was like that day in Virginia where he lives. Since the accident, he remembers things in MINUTE detail - the outfit a friend wore on a certain day years ago, the number plate of each car that has crossed his path, his every meal, I mean he really acquired a gift.....by Accident.

Serrell had become what the scientific and medical worlds refer to as an acquired savant: someone who is perfectly ordinary until an injury to the brain, after which they possess a remarkable ability, such as a photographic memory, a talent for a musical instrument despite NO prior training, a sudden propensity for complex mathematical equations, the ability to sculpt or draw scale replicas of objects they've only Glimpsed. Brain damage, usually to the left hemisphere, unlocks something in their brains as the right hemisphere compensates for the injury. The result is, very rarely, great skill, unfathomable to the ordinary person.

WELLLL knock me down and call me Susan!!!!! How amazing is that.

From His website:
"What makes Orlando Serrell so unique is that he may indeed hold the key that unlocks the genius in us all. Orlando Serrell did not possess any special skills until he was struck in the head by a baseball when he was 10. And his extraordinary gifts seem to be his only side effect. Only time and research will tell. Until then we will do well to keep our eyes on Orlando and learn what we can from his experience."

ME: If I knew Orlando he would be so tired of me LOL, I would randomly call out dates and check him on each one just for the fun of it... lol, can you imagine having such a friend or family member. Think of family reunions....auntie in the back ground like "Ask Orlando to tell you what day cousin Pete birthday was on back in 84......and ask him what kind of shirt he was wearing" LOL..

Its not hard to find more info on Orlando if you're interested in the details of scientific facts surrounding his amazing condition....He's all over the net of course! Some of my credits goes to the articles below:

Black History Month for ALL to Enjoy

So as we head towards the end of Black History Month, I decided to provide some insight on those we may not have learned about in school. LESSON! I randomly selected the Super Stars below to help me Show Off this week. Some of us put so many barriers up in Life that prevents us from accomplishing our goals. I'm Sleepy, I just got off work, and I'm tired are just few of the familiar phrases we often hear and say. I'm almost positive that those before us would laugh at the excuses we make so we can just chill. The Good news is that it's never too late for a Fresh New start. I hope the people below will inspire you to see that anything is possible with consistency, dedication and motivation. *Copy and Paste the Links below to your browser for more info  Ballerina    Michaela DePrince From:  A Remote orphanage in Sierra Leone “Who would want to adopt a girl who looks like you?” The orphanage staff would tell her. http://blackgirllonghair.com/2015/08/micha...

When is the last time you donated? What a perfect time of the year to think about others!!! Like many of you I’m always in the stores trying to find a good deal…sometimes its needed, others times we just buy it because it was on sale. Meantime our closet seems like its shrinking because were drowning it with things we really don’t wear or need! Let’s have a change of heart going into the New Year….Lets’ change a Life! Now many of you all may be like “No one wants this junk”....WRONG! If it isn't  damaged in any way you can donate it to someone or may be an organization that will SUCCESSFULLY give it to those in need. The chart below lists some very good information that we all should know BEFORE donating to these organizations…….Choose wisely! THINK BEFORE YOU DONATE SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT BEFORE YOU MAKE CONTRIBUTIONS: As you open your pockets to do a good thing and make yourself feel good, please keep the following facts in mind:   -...

Worldy Standards?

{Worldly Standards?} Someone named Bryan Wilkerson came up with a set of "Beatitudes" for the 21st century! He said, "What if we made a list of the kinds of people who seem to be well-off [successful] - who seem to have it made - by today’s [worldly] standards?" It might go something like this: 1. Blessed are the rich and famous, because they can always get a seat at the best restaurants. 2. Blessed are the good-looking, for they shall be on the cover of "People" magazine. 3. Blessed are those who party, for they know how to have fun. 4. Blessed are those who take first place in the division, for they shall have momentum going into the playoffs. 5. Blessed are the movers and shakers, for they shall make a name for themselves. 6. Blessed are those who demand their rights, for they shall not be overlooked. 7. Blessed are the healthy and fit, because they don’t mind being seen in a bathing suit. 8. Blessed are those who make it to the to...
